Inspiration at iStockPhoto

Skull Banner
This has Graveyard Rabbit written all over it.

I found this fascinating image at iStockPhoto.com, the affordable market for stock photos – and a whole lot more.  I did a search using the keyword “scrapbook” and got thousands (literally!) of the most amazing photos and illustrations.  I found all kinds of scrolls and frames for embellishments and some incredible backgrounds.

But, what really caught my attention was the prices they are charging for things we family history fanatics have stashed away in cabinets and closets.

There are huge collections of scanned copies of frames from old photos – from Victorian styles to Art Deco.  There were dozens of portraits with the faces erased so new ones could easily be “photoshopped” in their place.  My little skull motif was originally a scan of an old book frontispiece that I cropped and removed the sepia page background to create a fascinating graphic that will see a lot of use on my Graveyard blog.

After cruising iStockPhoto’s impressive collection of scrapbooking images and illustrations, I’m inspired to take another look at the old books, scrapbooks and studio photos in my collection to see what graphic potential I have right here in my own home.  This month’s scanfest could get real interesting . . .
