A Lifetime Subscription
I just bought and downloaded the PDF version of the book, Digging into WordPress. I use the standalone version of WordPress (vs. the WordPress.com hosted site) as my content management system and I’m getting more involved in building my own themes. This book covers everything I need to know about managing and maintaining WordPress and is full of tips and tricks for helping make my sites better organized and more functional. And, because it is in PDF format, I can do a quick search at any time to find the information I need.
The book is written based on WordPress version 2.8.6, but I just read this morning that version 2.9 – a major upgrade – is getting closer to release. Does this mean I’ve purchased a white elephant? No! The authors are offering a lifetime subscription so that with each upgrade I’ll be able to download the PDF copy of the updated book.
I also appreciate that it has been designed specifically for on-screen reading. Each page fits entirely on one screen without having to scroll. Among other things, this means I have full view of any example images without having to scroll up and down (one of my pet peeves). The table of contents links directly to each topic so I can quickly get to the information I need. And, of course, it’s all searchable.
Digging into WordPress is a well-written reference to everything you need to know about WordPress. In addition, the e-book design has been laid out to make it easy to read and the marketing process has been designed to make it a good investment. This is my idea of electronic publishing done right!
