Creative Christmas Idea

Lulu CalendarsI got an email from Lulu the other day focusing on their calendar products. I’ve been toying with the idea of a family calendar for Christmas presents and after checking out Lulu’s calendar offerings I’ve decided that’s the way I’m going this year. I can create a standard 11″ x 17″ calendar with my artwork and highlighting important family dates for $11.29 each. Sure it will take time and effort on my part, but that doesn’t cost me and the result will be worth much more than Lulu’s production costs. What a deal!

There’s nothing that says each month’s image can only be a single photo. I’m considering a photo collage showing the people with birthdays and anniversaries for each month. A visit to Jasia’s Creative Genealogy site offers even more inspiration. I can see already that creating a theme is going to be the toughest part of this project.

Got any ideas for a family-inspired Christmas gift? Let us know in the comments section.

That’s a great idea. I have been using collages of my kids on calendars every year at Christmas, the grandmothers especially love them and request them every year! I’ve also created digital scrapbook pages and used those on calendars to change it up a bit.

Thanks for the link! I’ve been thinking along the same lines as you… making a family calendar for Christmas giving. Unfortunately my arm (carpal tunnel) is limiting what I can do right now (hence my lack of posts to the Creative Genealogy blog lately). I’m hoping it’s better soon so I can get back to writing about all that creativity.

Thanks for the link to Lulu. I love that you can highlight your dates. Collages highlighting those who have a special day in the month would be great. They had other things that looked interesting too.

[...] Last week I mentioned the calendars I’m making for Christmas presents. That project is already getting out of hand. The Lulu calendar wizard is based on one photo per month. If that’s your plan, you’ll only have to make 12 (13 counting the cover) photo choices to build your calendar. Yeah, you guessed it. I just couldn’t do something that simple. I’m doing what could best be described as a scrapbook page for each month showing photos of the month’s birthday/anniversary people. [...]
