What is a wiki and why should I be interested?

A wiki is a type of online content management platform designed to easily expand as additional information is added. It is especially suited for publishing online encyclopedias (Wikipedia being the premier example) and support systems. Wikis often allow anyone to participate in the writing/editing process.

The genealogy community supports a number of wikis ranging from general research support to technical support for a particular application or platform. If you are comfortable using Wikipedia, you’ll find the genealogy wikis just as easy and helpful.
